Baseball: Chargers pull away to post 11-1 win against Morristown

A 5-run third inning by host North Decatur broke open a 1-1 game and sent the Chargers on to the 11-1 victory against MHC foe Morristown. North scored on run in the bottom of the first. The Yellow Jackets tied the game in the top of the third inning.

North put the game away with five runs in the third inning, two runs in the fourth inning and three runs in the fifth inning. Matthew Fields got the win on the mound for North. Fields went all five innings, allowing no earned runs on one hit and five walks while striking out nine.

At the plate, the Chargers had 11 hits and nine RBIs. Tyler Dean had a single, triple, home run and four RBIs. Grayson Downey finished with a double, triple and two RBIs.

Eli Trenkamp had a single, double and RBI. Kipton Ruf added a double and RBI. Fields also had a single.

South Decatur The Cougars dropped a pair of games this week. Wednesday, South Decatur was defeated by Knightstown 12-2. South led 2-0 through three innings, but the Panthers scored nine runs in the fourth and three in the fifth inning to rally for the win.
