The report comes from Dutch publication Het Parool. Weghorst is out of contract at Ajax in June. Mourinho is said to be keen on bringing a player of his talents to the Portuguese club.
The pair have never worked together before, but the profile of the player is said to be of intrigue to Mourinho. Weghorst profile of interest to Mourinho Benfica had previously been targeting Lorenzo Lucca in the January window, who is of a similar ilk to Weghorst. The Italian instead chose to sign for Nottingham Forest.
