Manchester City confirm contract extension for experienced player Manchester City have confirmed that Marcus Bettinelli has signed a one-year extension, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2027. The 33-year-old joined City last summer following the expiration of his contract at Chelsea. He arrived to replace Scott Carson, who had long served as City’s third-choice goalkeeper.

Bettinelli hasn’t played any game for Pep Guardiola’s side, but they appreciate his efforts behind the scenes. The English footballer has seen major change in the goalkeeping department for the short time he has been at the Manchester club. When he arrived at the Etihad Stadium, Ederson and Stefan Ortega were ahead of him in the pecking order.

But the duo were replaced by Gianluigi Donnarumma and James Trafford by the end of the summer transfer window. Ederson left to join Turkish outfit Fenerbahce, while Ortega stayed as fourth choice until January, when he moved to Nottingham Forest. Bettinelli is an academy product of Fulham, where he made 120 appearances for the first-team.

He spent four seasons at Chelsea, and has also played for Dartford, Accrington Stanley and Middlesborough. City are set for a busy summer as they look to address a growing midfield crisis. Bernardo Silva is widely expected to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Rodri also faces an uncertain future in Manchester, with Real Madrid targeting a move for the Spaniard. City want to retain the midfielder’s services , but he could be tempted to join Madrid for a fresh challenge. Stats from Transfermarkt
