His streak of consecutive sets won at Masters events had ended in his previous match against Tomas Machac, but Sinner returned to form quickly with a straight-sets victory, 6-3, 6-4. Sinner is aiming for a third consecutive ATP Masters 1000 title, having already secured the Sunshine Double by winning Indian Wells and Miami earlier this year.

He cited fatigue as a factor in his performance against Machac, pointing to the heavy schedule he’s faced recently. But following his win over Auger-Aliassime, Sinner said he was feeling much better physically. It was a very, very tough match. “I knew that I had to get better in certain areas. The serve is not there yet, where I would love it to be, but all things considered, I’m very happy.

“Yesterday, I was very tired. I recovered very good in this night’s sleep. And yeah, of course, let’s see what’s coming tomorrow.

“But in any case, very happy to be back in the semis,” concluded Sinner. He also made the final four in Monte-Carlo last year but fell short against Stefanos Tsitsipas.
