Arsenal consider new contract for 24yo on 1 condition
Arsenal consider new contract for 24yo on 1 condition Arsenal could offer Gabriel Martinelli a new contract this summer, but only on the condition that he accepts a squad role, according to The Times. More recently, however, there has been increasing noise around his future, with many expecting him to come onto the market this summer as Mikel Arteta looks for a more clinical option on the left. With Morgan Rogers expected to move this summer, Arsenal are among a number of clubs linked with him after trying to sign him last year. Aston Villa are said to have fought hard to keep Rogers amid interest from Arsenal and Chelsea , before extending his contract and increasing his wages in November.
That deal runs until 2031, meaning any club wanting to sign him would have to pay a premium. ยฃ80m is the figure currently being mentioned. Trossard, 31, has a year left on his contract. Arsenal have an option to extend Martinelliโs contract by one season to 2028 but may offer him a new deal this summer if the 24-year-old agrees to be a squad player. โ It could be argued, however, that this is already the role he occupies at the club.
He has started only nine Premier League matches this season and just 21 across all competitions, with almost as many starts in the FA Cup and League Cup combined as in the Premier League. His impact from the bench this season, particularly in the Champions League , where he has six goals and two assists from just five starts, would be a loss to this Arsenal side. But it also seems clear Arteta wants more of a threat from the left than he is currently getting from both Martinelli and Leandro Trossard .
