Bengals lose another free agent at position of need
One of the last Bengals free agents has signed elsewhere.
Yet another last-standing Cincinnati Bengals free agent has found a new home. Not long after losing a free agent to the Giants , the Bengals have now lost defensive end Cam Sample. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero , Sample is off to join the San Francisco 49ers on a one-year deal.
This one is a little bigger than some might suspect. Sample was a fourth-round pick by the Bengals in 2021 who, when healthy, was a solid rotational player, especially against the run. Adding a defensive end or two was already still a clear need even before this move.
The depth chart is top-heavy with Boye Mafe, Shemar Stewart and Myles Murphy, with only Cedric Johnson behind them as potential consistent rotational help. Free agency still has plenty of veteran names like Cam Jordan and should well into the summer and training camp. But for the Bengals, edge rusher would’ve remained in play at No.
10 overall no matter what happened with Sample’s trip to market. This article originally appeared on Bengals Wire: Bengals lose another free agent at position of need
