Pep gives update on Dias, Stones and Gvardiol Pep Guardiola has given an update on some of his injured defenders ahead of our Premier League trip to Chelsea on Sunday. Ruben Dias and John Stones were both missing from the squad for our 4-0 FA Cup victory over Liverpool at the Etihad last Saturday. Meanwhile, Josko Gvardiol has been out since January after suffering a a tibial fracture to his right leg.
Dias has been out with a muscle injury and Guardiola said that his fitness is improving but will not be involved in the squad for our trip to at Stamford Bridge at 16:30 (UK). Asked about the Portuguese centre-back, the City boss said: โHeโs getting better. Heโs not ready for Sunday.
โ Stones is also taking a step closer to returning to first team action and didnโt rule him out of being involved in the squad that will travel down to face Chelsea. โToday maybe he will do partial training, weโll see,โ Guardiola said. He also confirmed that Gvardiol will take longer to be ready after suffering such a serious setback.
โHeโs getting better but still he isnโt close,โ Guardiola added. Croatia team-mate Mateo Kovacic has also had a season impacted by injury after suffering an ankle blow. He has been on the bench for recent games and the boss confirmed he has recovered from this setback.
โHeโs fine,โ Guardiola said when asked for an update on the midfielder.
