'Hard to cope with': Heidenheim desperate to end long winless run
Heidenheim coach Frank Schmidt reacts during the German Bundesliga soccer match between Borussia Moenchengladbach and 1. FC Heidenheim at Borussia-Park Stadium. David Inderlied/dpa Heidenheim appear doomed for Bundesliga relegation but coach Frank Schmidt still hopes that their long winless run of 15 matches finally comes to an end.
Heidenheim's last of three season wins was on December 6, 2-1 against Freiburg. A week earlier they won 2-1 at Union Berlin, who are their next opponents on Saturday for the reverse fixture. Schmidt admitted on Friday that the long run of without victory is a mental burden, even though all players continue to give their all in training.
“It’s hard for all of us to cope with. We desperately need these three points for our confidence," Schmidt said. With six matchers left, Heidenheim are nine points off the relegation play-off spot and 11 adrift of 15th place which would see them stay in the top flight.
