SPRINGFIELD, Mo–The Springfield Cardinals were back at Hammons Field, hoping to get back into the win column. Wednesday night, Tulsa won in Springfield for the first time since 2024. That Driller win snapped a four game Baby Birds winning streak to open the season.
In our Cardinals Nation update, Springfield had switch pitcher Jurangelo Cijntje on the hill. He can throw either left handed or right handed. But Cijntje started out a little bumpy, he needed almost 30 pitches to get out of the first inning and gave up a run on an RBI groundout.
Bottom of the first, Springfield responds, Ryan Campos with a hard liner to short, too hot to handle, Jon Jon Gazdar ties the game at one. Next inning, Drillers retake the lead, Kendall George pokes this pitch into left center, Joe Vetrano scores 2-1 Tulsa. Bottom of the second, Springfield vaults back in front thanks to this three-run blast by Gazdar into the left field bullpen, his second of the year, it’s 4-2 Baby Birds.
