The Premier League winner fighting for League Two survival

Christian Fuchs is most famous for winning the Premier League with Leicester City. Now he is battling to keep Newport County in League Two.

Christian Fuchs was an assistant coach at MLS side Charlotte FC before joining Newport [Rex Features] Christian Fuchs has good reason to be thankful for Leicester City's great escape of 2015. The Foxes staged an almighty recovery to avoid relegation in the Premier League that year, bottom of the table in April but winning seven of their final nine games of the season to finish 14th. Fuchs joined that summer and was part of the Leicester team which won the title the following season, one of football's greatest underdog triumphs.

A decade later, the Austrian is fighting for survival – but to stay in the Football League. Fuchs took charge of Newport County last November, with the Exiles four points adrift at the foot of the League Two table. Winless in his first seven games in charge, Newport were still there at Christmas but have since clawed their way out of the relegation zone.

For now. County are 22nd in League Two, one point clear of the bottom two of Barrow and Harrogate Town, who Fuchs' side host on Saturday. "We know about the significance of the game," says Fuchs.

"This is not something new for us. "Most of the games we play right now are the same, from where the boys came from being bottom of the table and working their way up to where they are now. "The boys' mentality is such a big strength, that despite all the adversity, despite all the setbacks, they are up for it and they keep going.
