Ohio State legend Jack Nicklaus tees up as honorary starter at Masters
Ohio State golfing legend Jack Nicklaus was one of three honorary starters that teed things up with drives to get things going at the 89th Masters.
If there were a Mount Rushmore of Ohio State athletes, there's little doubt that golfing legend Jack Nicklaus would be on it. He still owns the record for winning the most majors of all time and is widely known as the greatest golfer of all time in most circles. At the ripe old age of 86, we don't see "The Golden Bear" as much as we used to, but when it comes to the biggest tournaments, he'll often surface for everyone to take a walk down memory lane.
It doesn't get any bigger than The Masters , a major tournament Jack has won a record six times, so yeah, he's known in and around Augusta. Nicklaus was on hand this week to tee things up for the 89th Masters as one of the honorary starters, along with fellow Hall of Famers Gary Player and Tom Watson, and each took turns driving the ball down the fairway to officially get things going for this week's tournament. Watch as Nicklaus is the first to put his ball on the tee and send it down the lush fairway at Augusta and swell with a little Buckeye pride.
The Honorary Starters Ceremony officially commenced the 89th Masters Tournament this morning. Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson have completed this tradition as a trio now four times. #themasters pic.
