Here is an injury update on Austin Nye, the Vanderbilt baseball pitcher who had surgery to end his 2026 season.

Vanderbilt baseball is hoping to have Austin Nye back for the 2027 season after the righthander underwent surgery with a shorter recovery time than the traditional Tommy John surgery. Nye had internal brace surgery, coach Tim Corbin said after the Commodores ' 10-5 win over Oklahoma on April 9. The surgery was performed by Keith Meister, one of the most common surgeons for baseball players.

Nye was seen with a brace and sling on his right arm before the game at Hawkins Field. "It was a different surgery (than Tommy John)," Corbin said. "It wasn't reconstruction.

He had a brace put in his elbow so he will be back next year, sooner than that. Went well. Meister did it.

Meister was very positive about the situation. " Nye already underwent Tommy John surgery earlier on the same arm when he was in high school. He was ruled out for the season in March after making just three starts in 2026.
