Larkin's hat trick, Seider's 5 points lead Red Wings over Flyers
The odds are slim of making the playoffs but the Red Wings showed Thursday they're not giving up.
Detroit - The odds are slim, the task of making of playoffs nearly impossible at this point. But the Red Wings showed Thursday they're not giving up. Not at all, actually.
Captain Dylan Larkin isn't going to allow it. Larkin scored three goals - one each power play, shorthanded and sides skating four-on-four - as the Wings powered to a 6-3 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers. Appearing increasingly healthy since returning from a lower-body injury that forced him to miss seven games, Larkin's energy and skill ignited the Wings all evening, as he raised his season total to 34 goals.
The Wings' special teams dominated, with four goals. Along with Larkin's offense (Larkin also had an assist, for a four-point evening), Moritz Seider had a power play goal and four assists for a career-high five-point and four-assist game, and Alex DeBrincat had a power play goal, his 40th goal, as the Wings stayed alive in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Patrick Kane closed out the scoring with his 16th goal, in the third period, finally at even strength.
Kane also had two assists for a three-point night. Goaltender Cam Talbot replaced John Gibson midway in the second period. Gibson (13 saves on 15 shots) was run over early in the first period by Philadelphia's Owen Tippett and appeared to be uncomfortable the rest of his time in net.
