Fernando Mendoza in hot water over resurfaced George Floyd comments
Old comments about George Floyd made by Fernando Mendoza resurface.
Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, for the most part, has a pretty clean-cut record. But a previously resurfaced social media post Mendoza made about George Floyd six years ago has come to light, prompting some to question his character. Police officer Derrick Chauvin killed Floyd while he was being arrested.
Mendoza posted under a LeBron James post of the incident, stating: “You need to explain the context of the first photo of the cop on the man, because you never know what he did wrong. ” Some are calling Mendoza’s comments “tone deaf,” while others point out that it was six years ago when Mendoza was a teenager and that he may deserve some grace. Meanwhile, Mendoza’s presumed back-up, Kirk Cousins, praised the soon-to-be Las Vegas Raiders rookie and said that he supports whoever the Raiders choose as their starter.
“I honestly don’t want to start unless I’m the best option, and I told Klint that,” Cousins said. “The best player should play. As long as that’s the case, I have no qualms about however it plays out.
” Cousins added, “I do think Fernando is going to be a great addition to our team. I think he’s going to have a great future in our league. ” Unless something else comes up, don’t expect this to affect Mendoza’s draft status.
