Buccaneers sign ex-49ers CB/ST Chase Lucas
The 49ers lost a key special teams player to an NFC foe.
One of the San Francisco 49ers ' key special teams players is leaving with another team. Cornerback Chase Lucas, who played 204 special teams snaps and 98 defensive snaps this past season, is signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo . Terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed, but Garofolo reported it's a one-year contract for Lucas.
This was always the likely outcome after the 49ers didn't tender four of their restricted free agents . Lucas, 29, had nine tackles and one defended pass in the 15 games he appeared in this past year. He was originally a seventh-round pick by the Detroit Lions in 2022 out of Arizona State.
The 49ers will likely look to replace Lucas' role in the draft, internally or via free agency, ahead of the 2026 season. This article originally appeared on Niners Wire: Buccaneers sign ex-49ers CB/ST Chase Lucas
