Kernel boys tennis opens new season with dual victory over Huron

Apr. 9—MITCHELL — The Mitchell High School boys tennis team opened its season at home on Thursday afternoon, defeating Huron 8-1 in the team's first dual of the season at Hitchcock Park. Matthew Mauszycki, Simon Wiese, Cooper Star and Patrick Morgan were all double winners for MHS, claiming singles and doubles victories on the afternoon.

Mauszycki set the tone early at No. 1 singles, cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Wiese followed with an equally commanding performance at No.

5 singles, defeating Riley Winegar 6-0, 6-3. At No. 4 singles, Dawson Adams was nearly flawless, surrendering just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win.

Morgan won at No. 6 singles for the Kernels with a 6-2, 6-4 victory, while Jakobi Brink downed Lah Gay Soe in Flight 2, 6-3, 6-4. Of note, Brink was playing in place of normal starter Asher Dannenbring.

The most competitive singles match of the day came at No. 3 singles, where Star rebounded after dropping the first set to defeat Klee Htoo 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 in a match tiebreak. In doubles play, Mitchell secured two of the three matches.
