Piedmont baseball sweeps Glencoe to finish Class 3A, Area 11 play unbeaten
Piedmont completed Class 3A, Area 11 play with an undefeated record, sweeping a baseball doubleheader against Glencoe on Wednesday with 3-2 and 9-0 victories over the Yellow Jackets. A complete-game effort from Charlie Sparks helped the Bulldogs claim the opener. Sparks struck out nine while allowing two unearned runs on three hits and three walks over seven innings.
Ethan Tidwell led Piedmont at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Brenan Hurst and Ben Dempsey each finished 1-for-3. Carson Sanders stole a base and scored two runs, and Cole Austin stole a base and scored a run.
Carson Cleveland led the Bulldogs at the plate in the nightcap, going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Cleveland also earned the win on the mound, striking out eight while allowing five hits over five scoreless innings. Crawford Mallett fanned four and allowed just one hit over the final two innings.
Sanders and Dempsey each finished 1-for-2. Sanders stole a base and scored two runs, and Dempsey drove in a run. Nick Glover and Alex Bass went 1-for-1, with Glover stealing a base and scoring a run.
Austin finished with two RBIs, and Hurst finished with a stolen base, two runs and one RBI. Tidwell and Aliandre Wright each stole a base and scored a run, and Jack Maye and Eli Johnson scored one run apiece.
