Michael Holmes has 112 wins to his name in 15 years as a head coach. He returns to Cincinnati to take over the head chair at Purcell Marian.

Purcell Marian has hired Michael "Bruiser" Holmes as its next boys basketball coach, the school announced on Thursday afternoon. Holmes has 15 years of coaching experience and 112 wins during stops at Cincinnati College Prep Academy, Western Hills and Gamble Montessori. He was a three-time Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference Coach of the Year during his time at Gamble, leading the Gators to an undefeated league title in his final season in 2023-2024.

For the last two years, he was an assistant at Miles College in Alabama. “I am absolutely thrilled to welcome Coach Holmes back to Cincinnati and to Purcell Marian High School,” athletic director Jamar Mosley said in a press release. “Throughout the process, Holmes not only demonstrated he was the best coach for this job, but the best person as well.

Holmes is a proven winner, and his dedication not only to excellence on the court, but into developing well rounded young men as well, made him the obvious choice to lead the Cavalier boy’s basketball program. " He takes over for A. J.

Frazier, who spent one season at Purcell Marian. The Cavaliers went 1-22 last year, scoring 94 points in a season-opening win over Gamble Montessori but averaging less than 50 points per game the rest of the way.
