It was a historic day at Yankee Stadium. Just not the kind the New York Yankees would've been hoping for as the A's were in town for a Thursday series finale. The Athletics won the game, 1-0.

It was the first 1-0 win for the A's at the Stadium since July 14, 1972, according to MLB Network's Sarah Langs . The Athletics hadn't beaten the Yanks 1-0 anywhere since 1979. On this day, the Yankees were inexplicably shut down by Jeffrey Springs, who allowed just one hit over seven innings while striking out six.

Two relievers threw hitless innings, and that was that, a one-hitter. Ben Rice had the lone hit for the Yankees, a single. The lineup also had three walks, and that was it.
