Union Berlin hit with big fine over pyrotechnics use by fans

Union Berlin fans set off pyrotechnics as part of their choreographed display prior to the start of the German Bundesliga soccer match between FC Union Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt at An der Alten Försterei. Soeren Stache/dpa Union Berlin have been fined €340,000 ($397,000) by the German Football Federation (DFB) because their fans lit pyrotechnics in a Bundesliga match which had to be stopped. Union fans lit around 200 Bengal fireworks early in the February 6 match against Eintracht Frankfurt.

The game was interrupted for seven minutes. The DFB said that Union can use €113,000 of the fine for security and violence prevention measues.
