Popp has 'clear aim' to be fit for one last Cup final with Wolfsburg

Marius Becker/dpa Former Germany captain Alexandra Popp hopes to be fit again for one last German women's Cup final with Wolfsburg against Bayern Munich on May 14. Popp, 34, is nursing a calf injury but she told a news conference on Thursday that "rehabilitation is going according to plan so far.
"It is the clear aim to be fit again for the Cup final," Popp said. Popp is leaving Wolfsburg after 14 years for Borussia Dortmund who are contention for promotion into the second division. Popp was born near Dortmund and is a lifelong fan of the club.
Popp arrived in Wolfsburg in 2012 and won two Champions Leagues, seven Bundesliga titles and 11 German Cups with them. The 2016 Olympic champion also won the Cup twice with her previous club, FCR Duisburg, and cried tears of joy in the stands when Wolfsburg reached the final on penalties against Carl Zeiss Jena on Sunday. "I was absolutely over the moon," Popp said.
"To have the chance, right at the end, to be here in the Cup final – a competition I have a very special connection with, having won it 13 times – means the world to me. " The Cup final against title holders and Bundesliga leaders is the penultimate season game for Wolfsburg, with only the final Bundesliga machday to follow.
