Warriors 'prefer' multi-year extension for Steve Kerr
According to Jake Fischer, the Golden State Warriors would prefer to sign Steve Kerr to a multi-year deal
Steve Kerr's contract with the Golden State Warriors is set to expire at the end of the current season. The veteran head coach has consistently avoided discussing his long-term future with the franchise, often noting that it will be a discussion once the current season is over. According to NBA Insider Jake Fischer, writing via the Stein Line Newsletter, the Warriors front office would prefer to sign Kerr to a multi-year deal, rather than a short-term extension.
In doing so, Kerr would likely be commiting to leading the team beyond the final years of the Stephen Curry and Draymond Green duo, which could include navigating a rebuild. "One whisper you do hear emanating from the Bay Area, however, is that the Warriors would prefer to extend Kerr for longer than one season if they ultimately agree to terms on a new deal," Fischer reported. "It's believed that Warriors officials would rather avoid a Last Dance scenario if they can while also crossing their fingers that Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody can bounce back as swiftly as possible in 2026-27 from their recent season-ending injuries.
" Kerr took the Warriors' head coaching job in 2014. He's guided the team to four NBA championships. Throughout his 12 seasons in charge, he's led Golden State to a 604-350 regular-season record, giving him a 63.
3% win rate over 954 games. He's also guided the Warriors to a 104-48 record in the postseason. Nevertheless, Kerr's future is unlikely to be resolved until after the Warriors' season comes to a close.
