Why isn't Phil Mickelson playing in the 2026 Masters?
Here's why Phil Mickelson won't play in the 2026 Masters.
Tiger Woods isn't the only prominent former champion who will not be playing in the Masters this week. Last Thursday, three-time Masters champion Phil Mickelson announced that he will not participate in the tournament, citing a personal health issue. It will be just the second time Mickelson has missed the Masters since 1995, with the other being in 2022.
"Unfortunately, I will not play in the Masters Tournament next week and will be out for an extended period of time as my family continues to navigate a personal health matter," Mickelson said in a statement on social media. "I have great respect for Augusta National Golf Club, and it is definitely the most special week of the year. I wish everyone the best luck and will be watching.

"We know how much Phil loves the Masters Tournament, and he will be missed by everyone in Augusta next week," Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley said in a statement . "He has our complete support as he takes time to be with his family. " Mickelson, who last won a major in 2021, finished tied for second in the Masters in 2023.
