Airport girls tennis team will call Monroe YMCA home again in 2026
Looking at 2026 prospects for girls tennis in Monroe County Region.
Jerry Escheck is beginning his 34th season as the girls tennis coach at Airport. He isn’t sure how many of those years the Jets have been a team without courts. “Too long,” was the only response Escheck could offer when asked how long it has been since Airport has been able to play on home courts.
It looks like that will continue for the foreseeable future. “There is nothing on the horizon,” Escheck said. But it’s not all bad for the Jets.
They play their home matches at the Monroe YMCA where Escheck is the director of tennis and racquet sports. “It makes it convenient for me and obviously we don’t get rained out of practices or matches,” he said. What keeps girls coming out for tennis at a school with no courts?
“The girls work hard and they’ve had success for the last six or eight years,” Escheck said. “They talk about it at school and other girls try it and like it. That has kept us competitive.
