Champaign Central baseball leaning on postseason pedigree

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Champaign Central baseball has been a consistent winner in recent seasons, riding a streak of five-straight regional titles. The Maroons made it all the way to super-sectionals last year after a walk-off home run by Luke McClure gave Central a sectional title.

Central is off to a 5-3 start this season, looking to find consistency and make another run when the postseason rolls around. “It’s an expectation to have success in the postseason, senior Tre Cole said. “Building up is how we get that success, staying strong here, being consistent, and then bringing it down to a regional is our expectation.

” “Win a regional championship. ’ “Past couple of years we had really, really good leadership with like Luke and PK [Patrick Kennedy], so I think just continuing that kind of taking a leadership role this year, trying to push other guys in practice, trying to get them better, trying to get guys to show up, that’s really big right now,” junior catcher John Timmons said.
