But at some point, now or later, they've got to be recognized as a real problem. The New York Yankees are starting to approach that point with Ryan McMahon. In his second-to-last at bat on Wednesday night, in a key spot, McMahon grounded meekly into an inning-ending double play.

His last at bat featured whiffs on 3-1 and 3-2 to end the game, a 3-2 loss to the A's. McMahon is now 2-for-26 this season. He has struck out 13 times, which you can do the math on -- half of his at bats have ended in a punch out.

His two hits are both singles, too. It's been a total whimper in the early going.
