McAlester baseball took its first two district losses of the season this week to Bishop Kelley. On Monday, the Buffaloes (11-13, 6-2) traveled to Tulsa where they lost to the Comets (16-4, 8-0) 12-2 by run rule. On Tuesday, McAlester hosted Bishop Kelley in another loss, this time 12-3 through seven innings.

While the Comets are a strong team, coach Justin Mullins believes the losses were more about what his team did wrong than what Bishop Kelley did right. “It was self induced,” Mullins said. “We didn’t do a very good job competing in the zone, we didn’t make plays, we didn’t get the timely hits.

“They’re a good club and you can’t give them a lot of things because they’ll take advantage of it. ” The Buffaloes believe they’re as good of a team as any other, but they want to clean up the little mistakes which have cost them in the recent outings. “Hopefully they learned that we can beat anybody if we want to but we can’t walk people, we can’t make errors,” Mullins said.
