With the Philadelphia 76ers idle on Wednesday before taking on the Houston Rockets on Thursday, there can still be some movement around the Eastern Conference. The Sixers are in a tight playoff race as they look to climb out of the play-in and into the top 6 so they can guarantee themselves a playoff spot. For the Sixers, there are a few games that will directly affect them in the standings.
One of those is in Orlando as the Magic play host to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Wolves have already clinched a playoff spot in the West while the Magic are currently tied with the Sixers for the No. 7 seed in the East.
Philadelphia does hold the tiebreaker over Orlando, but life gets tougher if the Magic beat the Wolves so the Sixers will be rooting for Minnesota to get it done on the road. The Atlanta Hawks are in action as they take on the Cleveland Cavaliers. This one is simple: root for the Cavs.
If the Hawks win, they will not only clinch a playoff spot, but the Sixers will be unable to catch them. Atlanta would be 2. 5 games up on Philadelphia, and even if the Sixers were to win in Houston on Thursday, would not be able to catch the Hawks in the standings due to Atlanta owning the tiebreaker.
