CJ baseball plates 7 in extra inning to claim win
WEST PLAINS, Mo. — Carl Junction High School bats came alive in the top of the eighth inning Tuesday, with the Bulldogs plating seven runs to claim an 8-1 road win over the West Plains High School Zizzers. CJ starter Cooper Vediz threw a gem for the Bulldogs, striking out 11 and walking none in seven innings.
He gave up one run on two hits before Brayden Larery took the mound in relief. Larery struck out two and allowed no hits and no runs in the win. The game was a pitchers duel early, with neither team able to put a run across until the bottom of the sixth when West Plains’ Dominic Hale scored on a fielder’s choice.
The Bulldogs (11-4) answered with a run of their own in the top of the seventh when Deacon Endicott scored on a Zizzers error. Vediz sent West Plains (5-7) down in order in the bottom of the frame to force an extra inning. That’s when the CJ offense caught fire.
Craig Hayes broke a 1-1 stalemate when he scored on an Endicott groundout. The Bulldogs final six runs all came with two outs. Logan Hayes made it a 5-1 game with a three-run homer to left field.
The lead grew to six runs when Owin Walker doubled and drove in Larery and Aidan Spencer. Hayes added another run to make it 8-1 when he singled and plated Walker. Larery closed out the win in the bottom of the frame, striking out two and inducing an infield pop-up.
