Neosho’s Charlton logs no-hitter in run-rule game
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Neosho High School starting pitcher Cooper Charlton gave up no runs and no hits, struck out 11 and walked just one Tuesday in an 11-0 run-rule win for the Wildcats over Springfield Central (0-6) High School at CHS. The Wildcats (10-4) got on the board in the top of the first when when Drake Jennings scored on a wild pitch.
Neosho feasted off Central pitching in the top of the second, plating five runs. Gage Harvel scored on a wild pitch and Jackson Goodell made it 3-0 when he scampered home on an Aiden McCrory sacrifice grounder. Wyatt Woodward drove in Jaiden Fischer and Woodward scored on a Jennings single to left field.
Jennings later scored on a passed ball to increase Neosho’s lead to 6-0. The Wildcats followed a five-run second inning with five more in the top of third. After stealing second and third bases, Tevin Beaver made it an 7-0 game when he scooted home on an error by the catcher.
Woodward made it 10-0 when he hit a bases-loaded triple that plated Harvel, Goodell and Fisher. The Wildcats final run came when Woodward scored on an error. After a scoreless fourth and fifth inning for both teams, Neosho claimed the win in the five-inning 11-0 run-rule shortened game.
Woodward finished 2 for 3 with four RBIs and two runs. Jennings went 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI. Central’s Zachary Fox shouldered the loss after giving up four runs (three earned) on one hit.
