Tributes pour in after four-time MLB All-Star, manager dies

Immediately after news spread of Davey Lopes’ death at 80, tributes poured in from the baseball community in remembrance of the four-time MLB All-Star and former Milwaukee Brewers manager. According to TMZ , Lopes died April 8 following complications from Parkinson’s disease and had been in hospice care in his native Rhode Island. “He was one of the greatest competitors I had the privilege to play with in Chicago, and against when he was with the Dodgers. RIP my friend. ” “Davey was tough, honest and a terrific athlete,” Hall of Fame sports writer Ross Newhan, who covered Lopes’ playing career with the Dodgers for the Los Angeles Times, wrote on Facebook.
