๐Ÿ“‰ Liverpool reach six-year low in dismal defeat against PSG If there was any hope of a response from Liverpool after the weekend's embarrassing FA Cup defeat against Manchester City it was quickly diminished at the Parc des Princes. Arne Slot's side were comfortably outclassed by Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their quarter-final tie, having been knocked out by the same opponent in the round of 16 last season. The Liverpool head coach drastically switched things up with his selection ahead of the first leg, opting for a back three of Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konatรฉ and Virgil van Dijk.

However, the extra defender offered little reprieve as Dรฉsirรฉ Douรฉ opened the scoring after 11 minutes, before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia doubled PSG's advantage in the second-half. Even more concerning for Liverpool, however, is the fact they failed to register a single attempt on target in the French capital, the first time they have failed to do so in a Champions League game since a meeting with Atalanta in November 2020. It makes for grim reading after they invested heavily in attackers during the summer, while Slot opted against bringing on Mohamed Salah having left the Egyptian on the bench.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool can muster up a response at Anfield, or whether PSG will prove to be superior once again.
