The Yankees' dramatic come-from behind victory over the A's was fueled by their popular bench player.

NEW YORK — Every once in a while you run into a story that reminds you baseball isn’t just about money or looming labor disputes or a commissioner who auctions off Opening Day to Netflix. There’s still a flip side to the sport that isn’t quite so cynical. All you had to do was glimpse into the Yankees’ dugout in the eighth inning Tuesday night, moments after Amed Rosario launched what became the game-winning three-run home run.

Teammates went full Animal House because a) the blast led to a come-from-behind 5-3 win over the Athletics and b) the narrative belongs to the Yankees’ most likeable guy behind the scenes. Of all the model citizens in the clubhouse — Aaron Judge , Cody Bellinger , Gerrit Cole — Rosario’s vibe is unique. The Yankees love him precisely because he’s no longer that rising star who was the Mets’ top prospect in 2017.

Rosario, who has never quite lived up to the hype, has played for seven teams in 10 years. But Rosario doesn’t complain. He doesn’t blame his managers.

He’s not jealous of younger players. As Jose Caballero said, “(Rosario) never has a bad day. He’s always with high energy.
