Steelers legend says quiet part out loud about Aaron Rodgers waiting game

Yahoo Sports

Pittsburgh Steelers legend Jerome Bettis says the team has ‘no choice’ but to wait on Aaron Rodgers’ decision ahead of the 2026 NFL season.

The Aaron Rodgers waiting game has polarized the Pittsburgh Steelers fan base, as some argue the team should move on while others believe he’s more than worth the wait. Well, Steelers legend Jerome Bettis has made his stance clear. Speaking with Fox News Digital, Bettis addressed the Rodgers-sized elephant in Pittsburgh — the Steelers have very little choice but to wait on the veteran quarterback.

“When you have no alternative, then you have no choice,” Jerome Bettis said. “And I think there's some players that are afforded a little bit more latitude than others, and Aaron Rodgers is one of them, especially when you are limited from a quarterback perspective in terms of depth and experience, right? ” Bettis hit the nail right on the head, as the Steelers’ quarterback room is currently down to 2025 sixth-rounder Will Howard and veteran backup Mason Rudolph.

While the team could opt to give Howard a starting opportunity, allowing him to develop under Rodgers for another year in 2026 seems like the far better move to make.
