Where Jaguars’ Liam Coen ranks among NFL head coaches

Yahoo Sports

Following a successful 2025 season, where does the Jaguars' Liam Coen rank in early 2026 head coach rankings?

The Jacksonville Jaguars went through a lot of effort to land Liam Coen, and it paid off immediately. Despite the rough start — no fan will ever forget that "Duuuuval" chant — he took a struggling franchise and turned it around right away. It was a historic success from Coen and the Jaguars , and he was rewarded accordingly with a Coach of the Year nomination.

Now, as the league looks ahead to the 2026 season, NBC Sports' Patrick Daugherty ranked all 32 head coaches, and provided analysis as well. Bizarrely, Coen came in at No. 14, just one spot above Shane Steichen, head coach of the division rival Indianapolis Colts, who is yet to make the playoffs.

Making matters worse, Coen came in at No. 14 out of just 22 head coaches, given that the 10 new hires were ranked separately. While Daugherty expressed optimism for Coen's future in Jacksonville, there's really no explanation as to why he's ranked in the bottom half.

"Liam Coen’s Jaguars tenure had inauspicious beginnings. He somehow bungled the very act of getting hired before uttering the Jags’ signature “Duval” chant in the cadence of a killer movie clown at his introductory press conference. Paired with new GM James Gladstone’s “millennial word salad”-style of speech, Coen started off looking like the latest in a long line of failed Jaguars saviors.
