The Penn State Nittany Lions have lost freshman guard Kayden Mingo to the transfer portal, the fifth player to transfer this offseason.

The 2026-27 season will be another year of learning new names and faces for Penn State basketball fans. Two of the teamโ€™s top players, Melih Tunca and Freddie Dilione V , entered the transfer portal after a miserable 12-20 season. While the Nittany Lions have made a couple of under-the-radar additions , theyโ€™ve lost more than theyโ€™ve gained, and things are continuing to trend in that direction.

Kayden Mingo, a promising freshman guard, entered the transfer portal today , becoming the fifth Penn State player to transfer in the weeks since last season ended. Mingo showed a lot of potential, averaging 13. 7 points, 3.

5 rebounds, and 4. 3 assists per game in his first college season. The freshman guard entering the portal means that three of the Nittany Lions โ€™ top five scorers are in the portal.

That adds up to more than 30 points per game missing from a team that already had difficulty scoring. Nobody thought this offseason would be easy for Penn State, but the challenges just keep on piling up. Follow Nittany Lions Wire on X and Facebook .
