Despite a two-run home run by Hunter Carns in the eighth inning, the Seminoles fell to the Gators at home, 4-3.

No. 5 Florida State baseball fell 4-3 to the University of Florida Gators on April 7 at Dick Howser Stadium, ending its regular-season series against the Gators. After dropping the first two matchups, the Seminoles aimed to avoid a sweep and make a statement on their home field, but came up short in the tightly contested game.

The loss moves FSU to 24-8 on the season, with three of the losses coming against Florida alone. In front of a sold-out crowd and an electric atmosphere, the ’Noles dropped their second home game of the year. Junior pitcher Cooper Whited toed the rubber for the Garnet and Gold, making his fifth midweek start and second against the Gators this season.

In his previous outing against Florida, Whited struck out four without issuing a walk and allowed one earned run over 3. 2 innings. In Tallahassee, he recorded two strikeouts with no walks, gave up two earned runs across 4.

1 innings, and threw a season-high 69 pitches. “All in all I thought we pitched competitively, I thought Whited did his thing, I know that the two balls went out, but I thought he moved the ball around, changed speeds like we’ve seen him do,” head coach Link Jarrett said in the postgame press conference.
