BOSTON — A visibly angry Willson Contreras sent out a warning to the Brewers after getting hit with a pitch Monday. The Red Sox first baseman was struck on the fingers with a 93 mph sinker from starter Brandon Woodruff in the third inning of Boston’s 8-6 loss . It marked the 24th time the Brewers have hit Contreras with a pitch and the sixth time Woodruff has hit him.
“Next time they hit me again, I’m going to take one of them out,” Contreras said after the game. “That’s the message. That’s the message.
” Before Tuesday’s game, manager Alex Cora was asked his reaction to Contreras’ emotional comments. Cora said he spoke with Contreras during Monday’s game, trying to calm him so he wouldn’t do anything to get ejected. “We need him,” Cora said.
“He’s a big part of what we’re trying to accomplish. He’s a good hitter. He’s a good defender.
