Jarvis Hayes' return to Georgia basketball 'almost like a full circle moment'
Former Georgia basketball star Jarvis Hayes returns to UGA as an assistant coach, focusing on NIL and agent relations.
Jarvis Hayes is officially back with Georgia basketball . The school announced the Bulldogs two-time first-team All-SEC selection and 2003 NBA No. 10 overall draft pick by Washington as an assistant coach on Wednesday April 8.
Hayes title is assistant coach, but he will do much more than helping to develop players working on Mike White’s staff. “The majority of it will be moreso in an off-the-court role in managing in this new environment with this rev share and NIL,” Hayes told the Athens Banner-Herald. “Managing contacts with agents and being that conduit between the staff and the coaches to kind of be another go-between as someone who can speak Georgia and bleed red and black and try to push Coach White’s message.
…It’s a new era. I take my hat off to Coach White to having a vision to consider this step in today’s environment because it’s one that’s immensely needed. ” Hayes was an assistant for seven seasons under Georgia State including four under his twin brother Jonas.
He also worked at Morehouse College. Now he’s back at Georgia where he was inducted into UGA athletics’ Circle of Honor in 2020. “It’s utter excitement,” Hayes said.
