Jack Nicklaus '1986' Masters documentary to air before final round

Legendary golfer and Columbus native Jack Nicklaus will have a new documentary about his final Masters win at age 46, which will air at noon before the 2026 Masters Tournament primetime coverage April 12. Titled "1986," the documentary will air 40 years after the tournament where Nicklaus defied age stereotypes to secure his 18th major victory as well as his sixth Masters victory, both of which are records. Nicklaus became the second-oldest player to win a major championship (now third oldest due to Phil Mickelson's PGA Championship win in 2021) and the oldest Masters victor.

Sitting tied for ninth and four strokes back of the lead entering the final day, Nicklaus shot a 65 to beat Tom Kite and Greg Norman by one stroke. Nicklaus did not have sole possesion of the lead the entire tournament until he sank an 18-foot birdie putt on Hole 17 in the fourth round, which was narrated by CBS commentator Verne Lundquist's famous "Yes sir! " call.

Featured in the trailer from the documentary was Nicklaus' press conference, where he called out Atlanta Journal-Constitution writer Tom McCollum for labeling Nicklaus as "done" with "no chance whatsoever to win the tournament. " "Hey, Tom. Thanks," Nicklaus said in the post-win press conference.
