49ers insider proposes Draft Day trade with struggling division rival

The San Francisco 49ers may look to trade out of the first round, and NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco laid out an idea for how they might do so.

There's an interesting case for the San Francisco 49ers to make a trade back from the No. 27 overall pick. Longtime 49ers insider Matt Maiocco from NBC Sports Bay Area proposed a trade back scenario for San Francisco that involves dealing with an NFC West rival.

Maiocco's trade is simple . The 49ers send the No. 27 overall pick to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for the No.

34 pick in the second round, the No. 104 pick in the fourth round and the No. 143 pick in the fifth round.

The logic is that the Cardinals need a quarterback and could jump up to snag Alabama signal caller Ty Simpson to work alongside veteran Jacoby Brissett under new head coach Mike LaFleur. There's certainly some danger here for the 49ers in that they're potentially sending a division rival the pick that lands them the franchise quarterback they've been lacking for most of the last two decades. However, the 49ers are in desperate need of opportunities to find star players in this draft and moving back seven spots from 27 to 34 while scooping up an early fourth-round choice and a fifth-round pick (which they don't currently own) would make it worth the move and the risk of handing the Cardinals a long-term answer under center.
