Geekie Scores Hat Trick, Bruins Fall to Hurricanes in Overtime
The Boston Bruins (43-26-10) clawed back in the third period, but fell 6-5 in overtime to the Carolina Hurricanes (50-22-6) on Tuesday night at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, NC. Morgan Geekie (37) picked up his second career hat trick, while Hampus Lindholm (5) and Pavel Zacha (30) each scored once. David Pastrnak had two assists and is now at 99 points on the season.
However, Jaccob Slavin ’s game-winner came 1:13 into overtime, and the Bruins walked away with one point. Joonas Korpisalo replaced Jeremy Swayman in the second period after he made 18 saves on 23 shots. Korpisalo made 16 saves but picked up the loss.
Alex Steeves skated as the third line left winger, playing in his first game since March 16. He skated in 13 shifts for 10:13 of ice time. The Bruins opened the scoring less than five minutes into the game.
Viktor Arvidsson played the puck off the back boards, and Pavel Zacha pushed it back to the blue line. Hampus Lindholm picked up the puck and scored his first goal since January 27 . Andrei Svechnikov got the Hurricanes on the board at 10:04 .
He banked a wrap-around off Jonathan Aspirot ’s skate and behind Swayman. K’Andre Miller connected off a faceoff 94 seconds later, beating Swayman through a sea of bodies in front. Then, Morgan Geekie scored his first goal since March 5 , snapping a 17-game drought.
