Fans shared photos they took with AOC during the game on social media, while others critiqued her attendance amid a government shutdown that has lasted for more than a month. The New York Post reported that Ocasio-Cortez continues to be paid as part of her $174,000 annual salary while many federal staffers go without pay during the shutdown.

Ocasio-Cortez is a known Yankees fan. A story in the Washington Post in 2019 notes that she's a "diehard fan" of the Yanks despite the Mets actually being the team that falls within her district. Ocasio-Cortez has represented New York's 14th district in the House since January 2019. She attended Boston University for college, and she worked on Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign in 2016. AOC was a surprise challenger for the House seat she eventually won, and she has made notable appearances politically, including at the Democratic National Convention in 2024.
