North Carolina coach Michael Malone and athletics director Bubba Cunningham agreed to terms on Tuesday, making him the 20th head basketball coach in Chapel Hill.

Upon Malone signing his deal, UNC athletics released his full contract. A copy of the text and language is below. Michael Malone UNC Basketball contract Contract terms Michael Malone ("Coach") Head Men's Basketball Coach, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill ("UNC or University") UNC proposes to promptly present and enter into an agreement ("Agreement") with Coach, subject to appropriate approvals and a long-form contract to be negotiated in good faith and executed by the parties.

Such Agreement shall include, but not be limited to, the following terms. Term: April 7, 2026 – June 30, 2032 ("Term") Consideration: Annual consideration ("Consideration")* based on a 12-month period (Contract Year: July 1–June 30), except that the 2026–2027 Contract Year will run from your April 7, 2026 start date to June 30, 2027. April 7, 2026 – June 30, 2027: $7,500,000 (annualized) July 1, 2027 – June 30, 2028: $8,000,000 July 1, 2028 – June 30, 2029: $8,500,000 July 1, 2029 – June 30, 2030: $8,500,000 July 1, 2030 – June 30, 2031: $8,500,000 July 1, 2031 – June 30, 2032: $9,000,000 *A portion of this Consideration may be treated as a royalty for the license of Coach's intangible property and may come from anticipated separate agreements between third parties and Coach for valuable services Coach will provide to those third parties Cumulative Bonus Opportunities Total ACC Coach of the Year $50,000 National Coach of the Year $100,000 Naismith, NABC, AP APR ≥ 975 $75,000 ACC Regular Season Champion $100,000 ACC Tournament Champion $100,000 NCAA Sweet 16 Participation $150,000 NCAA Elite 8 Participation $200,000 NCAA Final 4 Participation $200,000 NCAA Tournament Championship $500,000 Total Performance Bonus Eligibility $1,475,000 Bonuses shall be deemed earned upon achievement and paid within thirty (30) days following the applicable award, game, or event.

Benefits and Other Considerations: Coach is eligible for all standard UNC benefits for Exempt Professional Staff (EPS) Non-Faculty head coach positions, including the following: Expense Allowance: $100,000 annual allowance for Country Club membership, entertainment, and other appropriate purposes to advance the program Relocation Payment: $75,000 lump sum payment upon relocation to and for temporary housing in Chapel Hill Vehicle: Use of car allowance or leased vehicle Final agreement terms subject to appropriate approvals and effective only after execution of long-form contract Camps: Coach or a related entity may operate athletic camps pursuant to UNC policies Air Travel: Personal use of private air travel for no more than twenty (20) in-flight hours per Contract Year. Program-related use of private air travel for all recruiting activities and for other program related activities. If private travel is unavailable for other program related activities, Coach shall be entitled to travel via first class.
