H.S. ROUNDUP: JPII girls lacrosse starts season with offensive power
Recapping Tuesday's Cape Cod and Islands high school sports action.
The St. John Paul II girls lacrosse team has been downright good offensively early this spring. After Tuesday's 16-7 win over Monomoy (1-5), the Lions (2-0) have scored 33 goals in two games.
For the Lions, Mia Curley (six goals, three assists), Akira Umbrello (five goals, three assists), Sophie Phillbrick (three goals, five assists), Julia Johnson (one goal) and Sophie Jansen (one goal, one assist) powered the offense. Goalie Avery Crapo made 14 saves. Also in high school sports action: Girls Lacrosse Tri-County 9, Upper Cape 2: The Rams (1-1) lost for the first time this season.
Barnstable 11, Dartmouth 10: The Red Hawks (2-2) evened their record with an exciting win. Emelie Jonsson scored seven goals, including the winner with three seconds left. Caroline Meins scored three goals.
Avery Croteau had one goal. Goalie Morgan Mueller made four saves. The Red Hawks played well defensively.
