Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks have been at odds regarding the star forward’s status for the final stretch of the current NBA season.

While Antetokounmpo has wanted to play, the Bucks have held him out of action since mid-March since they’re eliminated from playoff contention and thus don’t really have anything to play for. Giannis Antetokounmpo missed out on major Nike bonus by failing to play in 41 games this season As it turns out, Antetokounmpo desire to get back out on the floor may have been at least partially motivated by money. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania , Milwaukee’s decision to keep Antetokounmpo on the sideline cost him a major bonus in his endorsement deal with Nike.

Antetokounmpo would have received the bonus had he played in 41 games on the current campaign. However, he played in just 36 games, which represents a career low. "When reached by ESPN on Monday, the Bucks declined to speak on the record for this story," Charania wrote.

"... Multiple sources said the Bucks' decision to sit Antetokounmpo cost him a significant bonus in his Nike endorsement contract that would have been triggered if he played at least 41 games. " This story will be updated.
