Softball: Litchfield Dragons seek more wins
Apr. 7—LITCHFIELD — The Litchfield softball team is looking to end its streak of three straight seasons with single-digit wins. That comes after the Dragons went 6-14 last season, with a 4-12 mark in the Wright County Conference.
Litchfield's last double-digit win season came in 2022 when the Dragons went 12-14. Back to help Litchfield break that skid is second-year head coach Nick Besemer. Five starters are back in the fray for the Dragons.
That includes a pair of senior pitchers in Kelsie Palmer and Claire Holmgren. Their battery mate, junior Paizli Johnson, is back at catcher. Two of the three outfielders from last season include senior Charlie Estrada and junior Autumn Thiel.
Besemer named Johnson, Estrada and sophomore Nora Block as players to watch this spring. The Dragons will look at new infielders following the graduation of Kira Kuechle, Grace Holmgren and Janelle Quast. Quast also saw time at catcher for the Dragons.
Litchfield kicks off the season with a Wright County game against Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted on Monday, April 6 in Howard Lake. The Dragons' first home game is Thursday, April 9 against Watertown-Mayer. Litchfield is slated to host a two-day, eight-team tournament on May 1-2.
