Shala Ferrell resigns as MTCS girls basketball coach after one season
After one season and 26 wins, Shala Ferrell has resigned as MTCS girls basketball coach.
Shala Ferrell has resigned as Middle Tennessee Christian girls basketball coach after just one season at the helm, the school announced on April 7. Ferrell, who was hired in April 2025 , had a highly successful first season with the Lady Cougars, leading MTCS to a 26-6 record and berth in the Division II-A state round of 12. MTCS won a district title and was region runner-up to eventual state champion PCA.
A middle school coach in Coffee County before coming to MTCS, Ferrell and her family continued living in the Manchester area during her time coaching the Lady Cougars. She cited family priorities as a reason for her resignation. "After careful consideration, I have decided to step down from my coaching position due to family needs that require more of my time and attention," Ferrell said in a release.
"This was not an easy decision, as I truly value the relationships built with the players, families, and the program as a whole. "I am grateful for the opportunity to have been part of this team and proud of what we accomplished together. I appreciate all the support throughout my time as coach and will continue to cheer on MTCS girls basketball moving forward.
” Ferrell's daughter, Jules, was one of the top players in the state in DII-A. She was a Miss Basketball finalist after averaging more than 20 points during her junior season. It's unknown at this time if Jules Ferrell will be back at MTCS in 2026-27.
