Patriots trade Marte Mapu to Texans, compensation reportedly revealed

•Yahoo Sports

The New England Patriots are trading former third-round draft pick Marte Mapu to the Houston Texans.

The New England Patriots were initially reported to be releasing linebacker Marte Mapu on Tuesday, via ESPN's Mike Reiss . However, an updated report suggested that the team was trading the former third-round draft pick to the Houston Texans, according to Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle .

The team later confirmed the news on Tuesday. New England is shipping Mapu and a 2027 seventh-round draft pick to the Texans in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round pick. It's a move that leaves the Patriots with another hole at linebacker.

They'll also need to find another personal protector on special teams. Mapu's usage on defense dropped off dramatically under Patriots coach Mike Vrabel considering he was only used on 12 percent of the defensive snaps. Update: As @jonmalexander said, the Patriots and Texans have now agreed to a trade for LB Marte Mapu.

I'm told the Patriots will receive a 2027 sixth-round pick in exchange for Mapu and a 2027 seventh-round pick. https://t. co/gRXj9L6nBO — Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) April 7, 2026 Mapu started in 10 games during his run with the Patriots and racked up 89 tackles, three interceptions, 12 passes defended and five forced fumbles during his run with the team.
