Holding the No. 1 pick is typically a way for a team in the NFL to fix its future. Whether it's a team that dealt with injuries, one that has struggled for a few years, or anything in between, it's usually a great opportunity.
However, the Las Vegas Raiders understand that having the first pick doesn't necessarily mean everything will work out. Owner Mark Davis recently spoke about what having the number one pick means to the organization. While the expectation is for the Raiders to select Fernando Mendoza and have him be the franchise quarterback for a very long time, there's no guarantee that things will work out as planned.
“Having the first pick in the draft is exciting because we kind of control the draft -- we get to make the decision on who we're gonna pick,” Davis said during the NFL's Annual League Meeting, via the team's official site. “But we've had that position before, and it didn't work out. So there's no magic bullet there, but it's a great opportunity to get a great player, whoever they decide to pick.
